AgResearch has programmes under way to study genetic modification in cattle, largely aimed at developing products from milk which will improve human health and nutrition.
First discovered in 1996 in the Waikato and Auckland, by 2004 it had spread throughout the North Island. It was first discovered in the South Island early in 2006.
